Creativity

Definition: the use of the imagination or original ideas, especially in the production of an artistic work
/krēāˈtivədē/, noun
In a sentence: “the art fair displayed remarkable creativity by local artists”
Synonyms: ingenuity, originality, artistry, imagination, innovation, originality, individuality
Significance: Creativity is your very soul speaking. Creativity is who we are at the very core of our being. We are all born creative souls. Growing up, we spend time coloring, painting, building, thinking, and believing in the creative magic of life. The “magic” of life is our innate curiosity and imagination! As we grow up, society gradually dulls us to the mundane of life, and we often abandon our creativity for the more analytical, productive, logical, reasoned way of life. We must pay bills. We must make a living. We must work in an office. We must choose a college. We must choose an employer. We robotically tend to aspire to labels as opposed to a state of imaginative, creative, being. At a point, most people totally lose track of their creative mind and soul. When we continually do things in life that do not speak to our very souls, it’s tantamount to a slow but certain death. What is my proof? Look around at the world: Do you think that sitting in a cubicle making phone calls truly speaks to one’s soul in a creative manner? Is reading a tickertape for stock numbers elevating the soul? Is purchasing cheap, mass-manufactured, synthetic garbage from Amazon a creative process? The answer is “No.” Yet, that’s the way of the world. As we’ve become a more automated society, it is easier to consume as opposed to create. It’s easier to purchase with the click of a button than support a local business. It’s not difficult for writers, artists, painters, designers, architects, sculptors, small business owners—anyone in the creative field—to wrap their head around the notion that a creative life is a rewarding, flourishing, life. When we are not creating in any way, shape or form, we are living an incomplete life. Lack of creativity creates a sense of stifling repression if not depression. Without creativity, we have no way to express ourselves at the depths. It’s a muffling and suffocation of the human soul. Take away: A creative outlet is non-negotiable.
